Are Your Textures AI-Generated?

Short answer. No - and this is the foundation of our library. Every texture is photographed by hand from a real material sample.

How each texture is actually made

A physical material sample is placed in front of a camera and captured using our own proprietary process. Nothing is AI-generated or procedurally created. Each surface is unique and exists nowhere else - because the slab it came from exists nowhere else either.

Natural stone is the clearest illustration. No two blocks of onyx are the same; the veining is a record of how that particular piece of rock formed. A generated image can imitate the statistical look of onyx, but it is not a record of anything. It has no provenance to point at.

Why we take this position

Our customers include architects, fabricators and print studios who specify materials for real projects. When a texture is going onto a facade or a hotel lobby wall, "this is what that stone looks like" has to be a factual statement, not a plausible one. Authenticity is the product.

It also holds up under scrutiny. Open any preview at full scale and look at the micro-texture: real capture keeps coherent structure under magnification, while generated surfaces reveal detail that does not correspond to any physical process.

Using our assets to train AI models

This runs in the other direction too. Training, fine-tuning or validating AI and machine learning models on our assets - including generative models, style transfer and dataset creation - is not permitted under the Standard, Production or Industrial license.

AI-related use is available under an Enterprise or Exclusive agreement, where the purpose, scope, model type and any restrictions on the output are defined in writing. If AI is part of your intended use, contact us and we'll structure the terms around it.
